Secrets of Inner Health
Monday, 7 May 2007

Do you experience frequent headaches, stiff joints, or your elimination leaves room for improvement?

Just plain old tired, sleepless nights, dried-out hair, body odour, a frequently stuffed up nose, blemished yellow skin, bad breath, or just feeling sluggish and washed out, and don't know why?

If you answered yes to more than one of the ailments, chances are you are being over-run, with putrefactive bacteria's that are trying with all their might, to take over you and your body. If they do have a chance to take over, there are dire results for your well being, not to mention your sanity. If you feel they have taken over or before they do...

NOW is definitely the time

...to stock up on your internal health arsenal.

And the weapon of health you require is only big enough to see under a microscope, it battles an internal war every moment of your life and it goes where the vast majority of us fear to tread.

Where is this battle fought?

In the digestive tract, the large intestine...
the bowel.

And what is this weapon of health?

Lactobacillus acidophilus and as many of its cousins that you can get your mouth into!

These good bacterium's help lower your internal acid levels, which improves your pH levels, promoting vitality.

If you have high pH levels – you have low acid levels.
If you have low pH levels – you have high acid levels.

The Power of Hydrogen!

The term pH stands for the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. An ion is an atom or group of atoms that carries a positive or negative electrical charge; pH is simply the  electrochemical effect we get when negative ions (alkaline-forming) and positive ions (acid-forming) interact with each other.

Basically, this is like the electrolyte that enables a battery to charge up, and hold its charge. This is your vital energy and equates to your life-force energy. An alkaline, rather than acidic environment is believed to be one of the major deterrents to tissue damage, aging and the growth of disease organisms.

So while we're in a scientific state of mind, do you know how to test your pH levels? It's actually quite easy... simply use litmus paper.

Researches have proven that high pH levels promote protection even against the most aggressive disease.

So it's vital for a healthy body that we all understand that a high acid level terrain, feeds the bacteria's that distribute poisonous substances through-out the bloodstream. This acid build-up clogs and compromises the bloods ability to absorb and distribute oxygen, hydrogen, nutrients etc., lowering the cells vitality and the cells ability to grow, repair and even reproduce.

If you multiply this cell sluggishness or sickness by the billions of cells in your body, you'll begin to understand where many of our physical troubles begin, and where the countless names of illnesses have their root root cause.

What to do?

Consume foods that are RICH with these Lactobacillus bacteria's would be a wise ingredient to healthy living. Lactobacillus rich foods are kefir and yoghurt (made with un-pasteurised milk), BLACK sourdough bread, sauerkraut, sour milk, buttermilk and green ProBiotic Formulas. These foods are extremely good for your inner health and can be fun to make.

Most of these foods are pretty easy to find, sauerkraut on that hand is a bit harder to find. If you can get it, buy the barrel variety usually sold in bulk at delicatessens. Most of the big chain supermarkets and smaller European influenced food stores have it... but why not make your own? It's easy and home-made tastes better too!

Sauerkraut (a basic recipe)

  • Shred a large head of cabbage into a earthen-ware crock (at least 5 litre capacity).
  • Arrange in layers 25mm (1-inch) thick.
  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of unrefined sea salt or rock salt over each  1-inch layer.
  • Repeat layers until crock is filled.
  • Cover with a plate weighted with a heavy object.
  • Keep in a warm place out of the sun (I put mine on top of the water-heater).
  • Next day, remove any foam or "scum" that will accumulate at top, after which stir cabbage.

Do this each day. You may like to add 1 tablespoon of caraway or dill seeds and, if desired, sliced onions, cucumbers, other sliced vegetables. At the end of three or four days, after foam or bubbling has stopped, transfer to jars and cover tightly.

Store in a cool place and use as needed.

As for a good sour-dough bread, it's true bread making in the beginning can take a long time to get right, so if you feel you don't have the time or the nous, look around for a good sourdough bakery. Yoghurt... most of the health food stores have a good choice – the commercially made flavoured yoghurts are generally loaded with sugar, so get the plain variety and add your own fresh fruit.

Sour milk, buttermilk… again at your local supermarkets.

What to do if you haven't the time to make all these Lactobacillus rich foods?

Then get into the ProBiotic Formulas. We all know "It's not what you eat, it's what you absorb!" Some of us feel as though we get all the nutrients we need because we take supplements of vitamins and minerals. Again, if your system is finding it hard to absorb nutrients in naturally occuring foods, what chance does it have absorbing pills?

Eat plenty of raw fruits, raw vegetables (especially the green leafy varieties), sea-weed, oils (nuts, seeds and grains), drink plenty of water, eat plenty of unrefined rock and sea salt with your Lactobacillus rich foods and enjoy the walk as you tread the path of optimal health.

With your health and vitality in mind.
